Mathias is a research assistant at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), where, aside from working on MIGNEX he is a part of several other projects that study migration, integration and related topics. He holds an MPhil in Modern Transnational History from the University of Oslo. His thesis dealt with how the previous colonial relationship between Italy and Libya affects and shapes migration management between the two countries (and the EU) today. Mathias' research interest include colonial history, decolonization, Mediterranean migration, Italian politics and Libyan society, to name some. Methodologically he has experience with archival research, qualitative interviews and extensive literature review.
